Sarah Mitchell
President
Sarah is a 5th year BME PhD candidate working with Dr. Stuart Ibsen in the CEDAR center at the Knight Cancer Institute. Her current work is in the dielectrophoretic separation and characterization of biological nanoparticles analyzed for the early detection of pancreatic cancer. Her prior research was focused on the synthesis of gold nanoparticles, followed by a year in the research and development department at a clinical diagnostic lab validating at-home blood collection based assays. Beyond the lab, Sarah enjoys spending time with her friends and family, hiking, and trying new food and coffee places around Portland.

Cole Baker
Vice President - Internal
Cole is currently a fourth year student at the Hinds Lab. He began his career in research as a research assistant at PDX Pharmaceuticals, a start-up company focused on cancer therapeutics. After gaining lab experience, Cole decided to pursue a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on translating devices into the clinic. Cole now works on testing devices and therapeutics for use in cardiovascular applications, including new resorbable arterial stents, different TAVR's, and anticoagulant drugs for use in ECMO.

Pranav Kolluri
Vice President - External
Pranav is a second-year PhD student in biomedical engineering in Dr. Xubo Song’s lab. His research focuses on multimodal and temporal modeling for cancer outcome and treatment prediction, as well as sparse image reconstruction methods for super resolution technologies. Prior to going the graduate program, he did high-resolution bone structure imaging research at UCSF and worked at NASA Ames Research Center on aircraft traffic management research. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley.
Outside of the lab, he enjoys gardening, cooking, and a nice long bike ride. He also enjoys spending time messing around with small drones and working on small maker projects.

Shelby Santos
Secretary
Shelby is a 4th year PhD candidate working under the mentorship of Dr. Daniel Zuckerman. Her research combines molecular dynamics simulations and statistics to study cooperative binding in LC8, a molecular hub protein. She has previously served on the boards of the Biophysical Society OSU Chapter and AISES Lower Columbia Willamette Region Chapter. Outside work, Shelby spends her time hanging out with her dogs and runner ducks.

Christian Ross
Treasurer
Christian is a 3rd year BME PhD candidate working with Dr. Alexander Davies and Dr. Stuart Ibsen at the Knight Cancer Research Institute. His research focuses on improving therapeutic monitoring and early detection of cancer through a deeper understanding of cancer biology combined with innovative engineering approaches. His long-term goal is to develop translational technologies that bridge the gap between fundamental laboratory discoveries and clinical implementation. Outside of the lab, Christian enjoys hockey, gaming, and hiking.

Subhamoy Biswas
Communications
Director
Subhamoy is a 3rd year BME PhD candidate working with Dr. Peter Jacobs as his mentor. His current research focuses on building a multi-agentic framework that leverages different small language model agents to address different components of daily decision support for individuals living with type 1 diabetes. Originally from India, he earned his MASc degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from University of Waterloo, Canada. Outside work, he enjoys photography, hiking, and gaming.

Shuhao Wei
Committee Organizer
Shuhao is a 3rd year PhD student working under the mentorship of Dr. Thuy Ngo. His research focuses on developing cell-free RNA and chromatin-based approaches for cancer detection and understanding disease-related molecular changes. Originally from China, he earned his BS in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Oregon. Outside of the lab, he enjoys hiking, snowboarding, working out, and spending time with his golden retriever, Oliver.
