Emma Wolcott
President

Emma Wolcott is a third year PhD student working on models of pancreatic cancer development under the co-mentorship of Dr. Alex Davies and Dr. Ellen Langer at CEDAR. She is originally from Virginia and graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. As president of BMES, Emma is responsible for building community among BME students by interfacing with administration and leading an amazing board. In her free time, Emma enjoys running, cycling, cooking, and reading.

Ethan Oseas
Vice President - Internal

Ethan is a 3rd year Ph.D. student working in the labs of Dr. Karina Nakayama and Dr. Owen McCarty. His research interests include understanding the effects of sex hormones on cellular processes, especially in the context of gender affirming hormone therapy. Ethan earned his BS in mechanical engineering from Portland State, and his MS in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt, where he studied the cellular mechanics of the aging eye. In his free time, he enjoys paddleboarding, quilting, and reading/writing science fiction.

Michael Henderson
Vice President - External

Michael Henderson is a biomedical engineering Ph.D. candidate at the Knight Cancer Institute and a CEDAR Center member at Oregon Health & Science University. His prior research spans chemical synthesis for clean energy storage to the advancement of mRNA lipid nanoparticles to treat rare diseases. Currently, Michael is co-mentored by Dr. Adem Yildirim and Dr. Stuart Ibsen, where he is developing methods to improve immunotherapies efficacy using non-invasive responsive nanomaterials and protein blockers. His extracurricular passions include photography, mountaineering, and regional-international health outreach.

Azaz Khan
Secretary

Azaz Khan is a first year PhD student in the Biomedical Engineering Department at OHSU under the mentorship of Dr. Yali Jia. He earned his MS in Computer Science and Technology from the University of Jinan, China, and a BS in Electrical Computer Engineering from COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, Pakistan. His research interests are Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and OCT Angiography image segmentation and analysis. Azaz enjoys cooking, hiking, and biking in his free time.

Delaney Shea
Treasurer 

Delaney is a 4th year graduate student working under the mentorship of Dr. Stuart Ibsen. Her research involves engineering cellular-derived nanoparticles to treat cancer and bacterial infections. Outside of the lab, she likes to hike, bake, paint, get a lot of coffee and boba with friends, and volunteer with mental health and food security organizations.

Iman Adem 
Communications Director

Iman is a first-year PhD student working under the mentorship of Dr. Adem Yildirim at CEDAR. Her research focuses on developing peptide-based drug delivery systems for immunotherapy of cancers. Originally from Ethiopia, Iman earned her B.S. in Bioengineering from Oregon State University. In her free time, she enjoys spending her time hiking, baking, and indulging in crime shows and documentaries.
